first day of practice
June 2nd, 2025
Practices are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Skyview Pool (4049 Skyview Drive, Brunswick). We have two groups that roughly divide into these ages, but coaches ultimately will decide where to put each swimmer:
2024 Practice Times:
11 & over: 9:00-10:30am
10 & under: 10:30-11:30am
What happens at practice?
Our swim practices focus on developing swimmers' technique so they can swim faster and more efficiently. We do LOTS of drills and other fun technique activities to get the kids comfortable in the water. We teach swimmers all the strokes, how to use kickboards, how to dive properly, and how to streamline.
We spend some time stretching and play quite a few games during practices. Occasionally, we have donut and game days to add some fun to practices instead of just practicing all the time. Our swim team in Brunswick is a low commitment sport and a morning event, making it perfect for a summer activity!

What swimming skills are required for the swim team?
We don't expect your child to know all the strokes and be able to swim as fast as Michael Phelps. We're here to teach the FUN-damentals of swimming like the different strokes, a streamline, and a good kick. But, we require your child to swim one length of the pool, unassisted, with a legal stroke.
If your swimmer needs more work or we feel they're not quite ready for the team, feel free to check out our swim lesson program! We give swimmers the opportunity to start there then move up to the team when they are ready, at no cost to you.
Coaching Philosophy
The Forest Hills Tidal Waves swim team is not a travel or club swim team and we don't want to be. Our local swim team is a fun, low commitment sport that experienced swimmers can enjoy while also providing the foundations for developing new swimmer's strokes.
Our number one goal is to make swimming enjoyable for your child so that they will want to come back every day. We can't teach your kids how to swim if they aren't enjoying it!

Tidal Waves History
The Forest Hills swim team has been around since 1971. Over the course of five decades, hundreds of local children have learned the fundamentals of swimming on our team. Many have even gone on to swim at the state and national levels in age group, high school, and collegiate levels.
But during every practice, we continue to encourage our swimmers to have fun and enjoy their time on our swim team. Swimming is more than just a sport, its a life-saving skill.
